Its been quite some time, not sure if there's anyone still peepin' this ole blog 'o mine..anyway, good things have been abound, here's a quick late night sketch.

Fleshface

The newest member of Jeff's family 'o freaks! He doesn't talk much but he's loyal and always show up on time. Below are some of the gang in their their new outfits which find themselves, I am proud to say, at home on Jeff's wall...that is until they to come to life and destroy his house.. 11"x14" oil on canvas.

It's Not A Toomah

This one made me giggle. I also used some different colors this time to incorporate more cool and subtle tones, such as van dyke brown mixed with ultramarine blue for deep cool dark's, instead of asphaltum which makes a rich warm dark. Maybe its the photo but it looks like his beard could've used some more love.. This one is also for Jeff, and it made for some colorful commentary while getting tattooed.

Texture Sketches!

A couple of quick paint sketches playing with texture, which is always fun. I used a couple of photo texture overlays, some "natural hair" brushes, and opaque lines. The top sketch is based off a gorgeous sculpture by Bhead, which is far more interesting than my sketch. Check his work out here.

Dissonant Pilgrim

The new year brings with it a (fittingly) direful painting of a diasporic lad who renders himself frighteningly astute on your doorstep. And he just needs to use your bathroom right quick...I feel this one went dutifully well in regards to speed and clarity of execution, simple as the composition is. Although I may have overworked it in some areas (or not enough if self criticism comes lacking). This dashing fellow joins his brethren amongst Jeff's growing collection of my (rather questionable) fine arts.

Kabam!

So I've been employed as an artist at Kabam since my internship at the beginning of the year. This is some of the work I've done for the game Kingdoms of Camelot, which I worked on from January to this past November. It was interesting compiling all the work I've done so far and getting that eye-opening objective view (most notably of my early intern work, yeesh!). I've learned a great deal since then, as one of the perks of this company is being surrounded by incredible artists with fresh skill sets and approaches. It keeps me inspired and excited being around such talent and energy. Onward ho!

Mad Cow

Jeff's collection grows with yet another heart warming monster piece! This one was bigger and a bit more troublesome due to my (lazy) lack of pre-planning (a little value sketch goes a long way kids!) I used warm back light with cool front light to push contrast and mood, similar to the last one. Of course the next challenge is putting more figures in the composition so that my artistic cojones may flourish. And my post wouldn't be complete without a disclaimer apologizing for the slight glare in the photo, as the dancing gnomes failed to appear, yet again..

Lurker

Another one for, you guessed it, Jeff! After finishing it I saw a possible subconscious Lovecraftian influence via his story "The Outsider," apropos for Halloween I suppose. And I included the sketch for some reason...apologies. Nonetheless, I am determined to take better photos of my work, as I have come to the realization that kilt wearing Scottish gnomes won't magically appear and do it for me, regardless of how lavish my bacon burnt, gin soaked, Pogues blaring ceremonies. Happy Halloween!

Hung Up

Un autre morceau pour mon ami Jeff (I love google translate.) This go 'round I again riffed off a couple of digital pieces I did for my gradute thesis many sensual moons ago, deviating very little but hopefully more successful in execution. It wasn't an overly dramatic process which I suppose is good. I traded this painting, as well as the last two oil paintings, for Jeff's tattoo expertise which I'll show once my camera stops being a glitchy douche and stays on long enough for me to take some decent photos. 12x16 Ur-uhl ohn kanvis

Wired

Another oil painting for Jeff. It was a doozy, which means I'm not painting enough! This is a rehash of a character I did for my thesis, many a fortnight ago..I think its a step up from the original idea and I want to develop the character and his environment for the next piece. Snarl

Here be the finished painting matey, me first in many moon...argh. It's been at least six months since I've painted anything in oils. It felt good getting my hands, table, floor, pants, keypad and headset dirty again. I've come to know this fine gentleman as Jesup, the mutated monkey. I apologize for the shoddy photo, an inadvertent faux pas when out of practice for too long. This was done for my friend and tattoo artist Jeff Rassier. 12"x16" oil on canvas

Sketches!

So yes, this blog has been dead for a few months now, due largely in part to my current employment at Kabam. I've recently caught the creative bug again and this past Sunday afternoon yielded inspiration of the primate kind, sparked also by the recent release of Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, which I highly recommend seeing. These sketches are a precursor to a finished oil painting.

Grub Killer

I've been in Gears of War mode the past few days and decided to do a fan piece in anticipation of GOW3. This is the first time I've used myself as a game character. Its also my first piece of "fan art" and surely won't be my last, as its a lot of fun to do.

Origin of Theses

My final thesis project, minus two oils which have yet to be properly photographed for a grand total of twenty pieces. The final review last Tuesday went extremely well, and quick. They had a few (expected) issues with my story beats and not having turnarounds for my characters, but I received excellent marks overall. Its refreshing to be done with this and I've found a renewed capacity to look up at the sky and take a deep breath.
