Then There Were Two

Here are two of my latest drawings from Head Drawing class: one from life (above) and another Rembrandt copy (below.) Together they comprise the last two charcoal drawings I will be required to do, as we are now moving into the elaborate world of the painted portrait.

Carded

Since my assignments aren't hitting high scores on the "cool" chart at the moment, I now present several pictures from my evening at the LoBot Gallery's opening of the Cardburg 500. I went with several friends who acted as my pit crew for the intense four lap race. My team, Daz Bonerz, with the help of our souped up car the Peril Sedan, ended up with the second place trophy, losing to a five year old and her brother. Sadly, they were better sports than I was.

Jo Brings The Sun

My sister Jo came out to SF for the last few days of my Spring Break, bringing with her clear skies and plenty of sunshine. With little downtime we tackled the windy Golden Gate Bridge, sunny Golden Gate Park, downtown's sprawling financial district and it's cable cars, as well as North Beach and it's beautiful views of the city from above. And to diminish my over-inflated reputation as a workaholic with no life, Jo also got to meet my good friends, by way of a laid back evening with Joanna and Ryan followed the next day by a relaxed lunch and shopping with Rachel.

Level My Eye

Apparently its mid-term season and Spring break is next week, all of which I have been oblivious too. Nonetheless, school is moving along as usual with a value study of an illustration from the story The Selfish Giant for Watercolor class (above), and a new six hour head study from Head Drawing Class (below). I also did some pinstriping on a busted skateboard for an art show coming up in May, featuring more art on more busted skateboards; you can check out the site here.

Above is yet another 18"x24" charcoal value study done from a photograph depicting an actress who's name still remains a mystery to me while below is the latest attempt from life, both completed for my Head Drawing Class.

One Must Wonder

Today I attended the comic book convention WonderCon here in downtown SF. The place was full of vendors selling everything from original artwork, art books, comics old and new, t-shirts, and pirate clothing as well as large selection of comic book artists (old and new.) Directly below are a few highlights from the latter which included Jim Lee, who penned his name on my event badge, and J. Scott Campbell who autographed a collection of his sketches, both of which I enthusiastically got to meet for all of fifteen seconds before a quick handshake and a "thank you for the great work."
